Visit Canada Overview

Coming to Canada
as a visitor.

Canada welcomes visitors every year tourists, family members, business travellers, and parents coming to spend time with their children or grandchildren.

Depending on your nationality and the purpose of your visit, you may need a Temporary Resident Visa, an Electronic Travel Authorization, or a Super Visa for longer stays.

For those already in Canada, extending an authorized stay or restoring status after it has lapsed requires careful timing and a clear understanding of the available options.

At Hakam Immigration Services, we help visitors, families, and parents navigate visitor applications, Super Visa planning, extensions, refusal responses, and status restoration.

Most Common

Visitor Visa

A Temporary Resident Visa is required for citizens of many countries to enter Canada for tourism, family visits, or short-term business purposes. If your country is not visa-exempt, you need a TRV before travelling to Canada.

Super Visa

The Super Visa is a special long-stay visitor pathway for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It can allow longer stays than a standard visitor visa and is often used for extended family reunification.

Common questions

Visit Canada
answered.

Do I need a visa to visit Canada?
It depends on your nationality. Citizens of visa-exempt countries may need an eTA to fly to Canada, while citizens of visa-required countries need a Temporary Resident Visa before travelling.
How long can I stay in Canada as a visitor?
Many visitors are authorized to stay for up to six months, but the final decision is made at entry. If you need to stay longer, you should apply to extend before your authorized stay expires.
What is the difference between a visitor visa and a Super Visa?
A visitor visa is for temporary visits. A Super Visa is specifically for eligible parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents and can allow longer stays per entry, subject to requirements.
What happens if my visitor status expires while I am in Canada?
If your status expires and you did not apply to extend in time, you may be out of status. Restoration may be possible within the allowed period, but it is riskier than applying before expiry.
Can I work or study while visiting Canada?
Generally, no. Visitor status does not authorize work or long-term study. Working or studying without the proper authorization can affect future applications.
My visitor visa was refused. Can I reapply?
Yes, but reapplying with the same documents is usually not a strong strategy. You should first understand the refusal reasons and address the officer’s concerns.
