Family Sponsorship Overview

Bringing your family
to Canada.

Family Sponsorship is one of the most meaningful pathways in Canada’s immigration system. It allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor eligible family members for permanent residence.

The process usually involves two parts: the sponsor must qualify, and the person being sponsored must also meet eligibility and admissibility requirements.

At Hakam Immigration Services, we help families understand the right sponsorship category, prepare strong evidence, and avoid common mistakes that can delay or weaken an application.

01 Most Common

Spouse, Common-Law & Partner Sponsorship

Sponsoring a spouse or partner is one of the most emotionally important applications a family may submit. IRCC closely reviews whether the relationship is genuine and whether the application evidence is complete and consistent.

Who qualifies Married, common-law, or eligible partner →

Includes legally married spouses, common-law partners, and certain partner situations where eligibility can be established.

How we help Relationship evidence strategy →

We help organize relationship proof, timelines, communication records, photos, financial ties, and supporting declarations.

02 Family Unity

Dependent Children

Dependent children may be included in a family sponsorship process or sponsored separately, depending on the family situation and immigration history.

Who qualifies Dependent children →

Eligibility depends on age, dependency, family situation, and whether the child is included as part of another application or sponsored separately.

Key consideration Documentation must be clear →

Birth certificates, custody documentation, adoption documentation, and family records may become important depending on the case.

03 PGP / Super Visa

Parents & Grandparents

Sponsoring parents or grandparents for permanent residence can be meaningful but competitive. Many families also consider Super Visa planning while waiting for a permanent sponsorship opportunity.

Key issue Income and invitation system →

Parents and grandparents sponsorship may involve income requirements, program openings, and limited invitation opportunities.

Alternative planning Super Visa strategy →

A Super Visa may be a useful temporary option while a permanent sponsorship route is unavailable or pending.

04 Limited Cases

Other Eligible Relatives

In limited circumstances, certain other relatives may be sponsored. This category is often misunderstood and requires careful eligibility review before taking action.

Important Strict conditions apply →

Eligibility can depend on whether the sponsor has other eligible close family members in Canada or abroad.

How we help Honest pathway assessment →

We confirm whether this category is realistic and identify other possible options if it is not available.

How sponsorship works

Two applications.
One family goal.

1

Confirm sponsor eligibility

The sponsor must meet eligibility requirements, including status in Canada, age, residence, and financial obligations where applicable.

2

Confirm the sponsored person’s eligibility

The family member must qualify under the right sponsorship category and must not be inadmissible to Canada.

3

Prepare sponsor and applicant documents

Both sides need complete forms, identity documents, relationship evidence, financial records, and supporting documents.

4

Submit to IRCC

The application must be organized, complete, and consistent before submission to reduce avoidable delays or return risk.

5

Respond to updates and requests

The sponsored person may need biometrics, medical exams, police certificates, or additional evidence depending on the case.

6

Receive permanent residence

Once approved, the sponsored family member can move forward as a permanent resident and reunite with family in Canada.

“The paperwork is temporary. The reunion is permanent.”

At Hakam Immigration Services, we understand that behind every sponsorship file is a family waiting to be together. We treat your case with care, urgency, and attention because this is never just paperwork.

In many inland spousal sponsorship cases, the sponsored spouse may be eligible to apply for an open work permit while the permanent residence application is being processed.
What evidence is needed to prove a genuine relationship?
Evidence may include communication records, photos over time, travel history, joint finances, shared residence proof, family support letters, and a clear relationship timeline.
